Calm winter morning with clear sky

Posted by admin on February 2, 2012

Sunrise this morning was calm with a clear sky. The sun is just about to climb over the horizon behind the trees to the left. Ice on the bay has a fresh blanket of snow from last night.

UPDATE: By noon a "snow canon" snow front came in from north-east. The weather condition that we call "snow canon" arises when freezing winds blow from north-east towards the coastline and there is little ice on the Baltic Sea. The humid sea air freezes to snow that gets sprayed along the coastline.

How the (clear sky) photo was made

The photo was captured using Apple camera app on an iPhone4 and editing was made with the Filterstorm 4 app. I only did some minor editing with contrast, saturation and sharpening. Export from Filterstorm with "Scale to fit" 960px and "Jpeg Quality" 80%.

Setting sun shines on snow-laden pines

Posted by mikael on January 25, 2012

We had a grey sky all day with only glimpses of blue at noon. As the sun was about to set, a gap between the ground and the clouds let the sun shine in horizontally. To get this picture I had to do some climbing to get a better vantage point - it sure was worth it.

How the photo was made

The photo is kind of HDR. I used the regular camera app on the iPhone4 to take two photos. A bright foreground picture of the pine-trees and a slightly darker version where the sun had a nice red lensflare and deeper tone. Using AutoStitch I created a composite HDR which I edited quite a bit with both Photo-fx and Filterstorm. Cropping and the "last touch" was made with Instagram and the filter Hefe.
